The Origin of the Eccentricities of the Rings of Uranus

چکیده

We consider the effect of gravitational perturbations from a nearby satellite on the eccentricity e of a narrow particulate ring. The perturbations near a resonance in an eccentric ring may be divided into corotation and Lindblad terms. For small e, the corotation terms da,np e, whereas the Lindblad terms excite e. In the absence of saturation the corotation terms win by. a small margin, and e damps. However, if the perturbations open gaps at the strongest resonances, then the Lindblad terms win, and e grows. This result offers an explanation for the existence of both circular and eccentric rings around Uranus. We also show that eccentricity changes induced by circular rings on eccentric satellite orbits are similar to those induced by satellites with circular orbits on eccentric rings. Excitation of Inclinations in Ring - Satellite Systems

Resonant gravitational interactions between a ring and a satellite produce secular variations of their orbital inclinations. Interactions at vertical resonances, analogous to Lindblad resonances but involving inclinations instead of eccentricities, excite inclinations. There is no inclination analog of the corotation resonance. An equatorial ring changes the inclination of a nearby satellite in...

Wiener Index of Graphs in Terms of Eccentricities

The Wiener index W(G) of a connected graph G is defined as the sum of the distances between all unordered pairs of vertices of G. The eccentricity of a vertex v in G is the distance to a vertex farthest from v. In this paper we obtain the Wiener index of a graph in terms of eccentricities. Further we extend these results to the self-centered graphs.

Torsion Effect on the RC Structures using Fragility Curves Concerning Soil-Structure Interaction

The existence of torsion, as well as consideration of the Soil-Structure Interaction (SSI), increase the natural periods of the structure resulting from a subsequent decrease in the seismic demand of the system. This paper summarizes the probabilistic assessment for evaluation of collapse fragility curves in concrete moment resisting structure with different mass center eccentricities. A 12-sto...

Tidal Evolution of the Uranian Satellites

Tidal evolution has significantly affected the history of the Uranian satellite system. The presence of large chaotic zones at past mean-motion commensurabilities among the Uranian satellites has resulted in significant changes in the orbital elements of some of the satellites, while allowing them to escape from the commensurabilities and evolve to their present nonresonant configuration. Miran...

Performance Analysis of Disk Type Variable Reluctance Resolver under Mechanical and Electrical Faults

Disk Type Variable Reluctance (DTVR) resolvers have distinguished performance under run out fault comparing to conventional sinusoidal rotor resolvers. However, their accuracy under inclined rotor fault along with different types of eccentricities includes static and dynamic eccentricities are questioned. Furthermore, due to thin copper wires that are used for signal and excitation coils of res...
